Miami, FL – May 27, 2025 — In a moment that brought art, public service, and civic pride into one powerful frame, AMARNA unveiled a commissioned portrait of Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz during National Police Week, celebrating her historic election and long-standing commitment to community safety.
The portrait, created by Miami-based artist Margarita Howis, was presented during a private gathering that recognized Sheriff Cordero-Stutz not only as the first elected sheriff in Miami-Dade County since 1966, but also as the first woman and first Hispanic American woman to hold the role.
“This wasn’t just about honoring a title, it was about capturing a moment in time,” said Howis. “Rosie leads with integrity, softness, and courage. That’s something young women everywhere deserve to see reflected.”

With over 28 years in law enforcement, Sheriff Cordero-Stutz has built a career grounded in professionalism, transparency, and service. Her election marked a turning point in Miami’s civic leadership, and a powerful example of what inclusive public service looks like today.
“I am humbled and deeply honored to serve the people of Miami-Dade,” said Sheriff Cordero-Stutz. “This moment is bigger than me. It reflects the strength of our community and the shared responsibility we all carry to lead with purpose.”
During the event, both artist and subject shared personal reflections. Howis spoke on her connection to Rosie’s story as a woman and immigrant navigating traditionally male-dominated spaces. “It reminded me why I paint,” she said.

Sheriff Rosie reflected on the influence of her mother, the value of staying true to yourself, and the importance of showing up for the next generation; words that echoed the emotional tone of the portrait itself: grounded, powerful, and human.
The unveiling is part of AMARNA’s continued effort to tell meaningful stories through visual art. As an art consultancy and curatorial platform, AMARNA focuses on cultural moments that connect people, elevate voices, and leave lasting impressions.
“This project was about more than a portrait,” said Damian Perrone, Director of AMARNA. “It was about honoring leadership, inspiring the community, and using art to connect us all.”
